‘Quarterback’ is a new Netflix series that takes sports documentaries to the next level. Produced by Peyton Manning, NFL Films, and 2M Productions, the series follows the 2022 seasons of three-star quarterbacks. The series gives viewers a rare glimpse into the personal and professional lives of these players, showing their challenges, triumphs, and emotions.
Suddenly, Manning faced a surprising obstacle when he tried to film the meetings between Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid for his Netflix series. He was aiming to capture the reality of being a quarterback in the NFL and the various aspects of that job. But Reid had one condition: no cameras in his meetings with Mahomes. Manning had to respect that & was the only option.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid did indeed insist on ‘no recordings of his meetings with Mahomes’ for the Netflix Quarterback series. This was his one condition for allowing Mahomes to participate in the show, which follows the 2022 seasons of Mahomes, Vikings QB Kirk Cousins, and Eagles QB Marcus Mariota. Reid agreed to let Mahomes do the show, but he wanted to keep his meetings private, as per Omaha Productions founder, Peyton.
“He (Mahomes) handled himself right, so it didn’t affect anybody, and those guys did a nice job of staying away,” Chiefs HC Reid said. “Everything was distant. It wasn’t a distraction.”
Peyton Manning, the executive producer of the series, said that Mahomes asked him to talk to Reid first, showing his respect for the coach and the organization. “He said, ‘No Peyton, you tell Coach Reid,’” Manning revealed in a New York Post interview.
“It was very telling. Here you’ve got the best player in the NFL right now, that could probably say, ‘This is what I’m doing, I don’t care whether you like it or not.’ Instead, he wants me to ask his head coach for permission.” – Peyton Manning added.
Manning said he respected Reid’s request and promised all the players that anything they didn’t want in the show wouldn’t be in it. The series will debut on Netflix on Wednesday, July 12.
Mahomes: Controlling his Netflix with editing power
Patrick Mahomes wanted to have a say in what the Netflix series ‘Quarterbacks’ showed about him. He said he was happy to have some editing power because he can be quite spontaneous on the field. He confessed that he sometimes forgets what he says, but he is just a competitive guy.

“I had some editing rights because I’m kind of wild on the field,” Mahomes said, according to The Kansas City Star report. “I don’t remember the things that I say. But I’m a competitor. That’s just who I am.”
The trailer of the series showed him talking some smack and using some PG-rated words. Mahomes thinks that the series will offer fans fresh insight and let them see things through his eyes. The series was filmed with camera crews following him during practices and games, but Chiefs coach Andy Reid said it was not a bother.

Per reports, the crew did a good job of recording behind-the-scenes moments without interfering with the team’s work. The series is also a milestone for Netflix, as it is their first behind-the-scenes drama about the NFL.
