Slander within the NFL is nothing new. Everyone from analysts, and ex-NFL players, to even fans, have had issues with different players. And, when conflicting views arise about players as famous as Lamar Jackson, the conversation becomes even more spirited. The Baltimore Ravens QB has been the topic of many conversations lately. Even when there were trade talks of him going to the Patriots, there were voices who disregarded this possibility. However, the most recent slander he faced was seen to be completely rejected by an NFL legend.
The slander towards Jackson came from Ben Rothlisberger. Big Ben went on to make some slandering statements that diminish the kind of talents Jackson showcases on the field. However, his views on Jackson were severely and vehemently refuted.

NFL Legend Defends Lamar Jackson
Shannon Sharpe, one of the most popular player-turned-analysts of sports, went on to speak up against Big Ben’s slander against Jackson. He didn’t appreciate the undervaluing comments made by the ex-NFL quarterback. Sharpe took to his show with Skip Bayless to defend Jackson’s talents.
Sharpe spoke about the kind of threat Jackson presents on the field. Furthermore, he said. “You don’t really fear a bear you just fear his teeth and claws. It’s still the bear, it’s a part of him. Regardless what you fear of Lamar, It’s Lamar Jackson and he has the ball and he can get the ball to the end zone whether he throws it or he runs it.”
Sharpe seemed very agitated by Big Ben’s comments. This might have been due to the fact that Roethlisberger came out with a statement that undervalues Jackson’s style of play in a detrimental fashion.
Big Ben’s words on the Ravens’ QB
The two-time Super Bowl champion went on to provide some critical insight into Jackson’s game. Big Ben described Jackson as someone who can be managed if you bring about more safeties onto the field. As per CBS Sports, Roethlisberger also said, “You don’t really fear Lamar’s accuracy all the time. He’s got a huge arm, he can make things happen when he scrambles, but you don’t fear him just sitting in the pocket and picking you apart.”
In its essence, Big Ben’s words sounded like he was discrediting the dual threat style of play Jackson has made popular and this was what Sharpe had a problem with. Furthermore, Sharpe explained how Jackson is very capable of throwing passes as well as running the ball.

March 7, 2023: Quarterback Lamar Jackson was hit with a non-exclusive franchise tag by the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday, meaning he can negotiate with other teams and be signed away for two first-round draft picks if the Ravens don t match the offer. – ZUMAm67_ 0238741763st Copyright: xKimxHairstonx
All in all, the defense, as well as the critique, seemed like conflicting opinions about the game in itself. Provided that Jackson signs a deal soon with a team, the fans will be able to see who is right to defend Jackson.
