The General Managers of the NFL teams are usually under the most pressure as they are responsible to build a team to contend for success. Even though GM’s work is behind the scenes, the spotlight is on them more often than not.

Drafting the right player: After the scouting, the General Managers have a list of players they will target. However, things can change pretty quickly during the draft. Their scouted players might get taken before their pick actually is on the board. The GMs have the responsibility on their shoulders to make the smart decision and get the right player among what is left. Drafts can make or break a team, and it is one of the most significant periods of the season for a franchise.

Having a good free agency: Free Agencies are an opportunity for a franchise to improve its roster with proven players. General Managers around the league try their best to negotiate their way into convincing players to sign for their team. Moreover, during the free agencies, the GMs have to negotiate with players who are already on their roster. They have to fulfill their demands of an increased pay while keeping the Salary cap in mind.

Making changes mid-season: Even though a GM has done his work in the offseason, there is no guarantee of success. Things could fall apart for the franchise during the season due to multiple reasons. The General manager needs to act on it quickly and get a solution. He might need to trade players or release them to sign a new player that can make an impact.

Being a General Manager comes with a big responsibility where tough decisions are involved. If things aren’t going well for the team, the GM might have to cut or trade a player. Trading and cutting off a player from the roster is a challenging task as the player’s future resides on it.

Some decisions might upset the fans, but they are necessary for the franchise’s profit.
