A star is born in Texas

September 17, 1995, is the day that Patrick Mahomes was born. He is the son of Randi Mahomes and Pat Mahomes, who was a famous MLB pitcher. Pat Mahomes played professional baseball for over a decade. He has been a part of some big MLB teams throughout his career. Being the son of such a successful pitcher, Patrick played all sorts of sports growing up.

Mahomes attended Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. This is where he started playing baseball, basketball, and football. Training as a pitcher and being good at basketball has helped the athlete become the successful quarterback he is today. Mahomes attended Texas Tech and started his college football career. Even though he was a top prospect in the 2014 MLB draft, Patrick chose to focus on football. He finished the 2015 football season with 4,653 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. Mahomes was a natural pick for any team in the NFL.

It is impossible to imagine Patrick Mahomes even talking about any other franchise over the Kansas City Chiefs. The quarterback has become synonymous ever since he was picked in the first round of the 2017 draft. But he was not always so invested in the Chiefs.

Growing up in Texas, Mahomes was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He grew up rooting for the famous Cowboys QB Tony Romo. “I was more [a fan of] Romo,” said Mahomes in an interview. “Aikman was right before me. So I got a lot of close playoff games but not a lot of wins. I was still a die-hard Cowboys fan growing up.”
