Amari Cooper has, without a doubt, established himself as one of the best wide receivers in the nation. The four-time Pro Bowler was the first-round draft pick by the Oakland Raiders in 2015. After four successful seasons with the franchise, he caught the attention of the Dallas Cowboys.

America’s team had to pay an enormous amount for the rookie wide receiver at the time. They also gave up a first-round draft pick for Cooper. The trade did not make sense to many. But it seemed like the Cowboys knew what they were doing.

The Cowboys paid a big price for Amari Cooper

The Dallas Cowboys saw a bright future in the Oakland Raiders receiver at the time. During his first few seasons, Amari Cooper has impressed a lot of people. Before joining the Cowboys, Cooper won the PFWA All-Rookie Team honors in his first season. He was also selected in the Pro Bowl twice in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. The sky was the only limit for the young superstar.

In 2018, the Cowboys decided to add the Raiders receiver to their squad, and it was not cheap. The franchise gave up their first-round draft pick that year. And from 2019 to 2021, Dallas has paid $53.9 million to Cooper. If they would have kept their first-round draft pick in 2019, they could have signed a WR for four-year, with an $11.4 million contract.

The Cowboys could have scored players like Deebo Samuel, DK Metcalf, or A.J. Brown to their squad. Many fans saw this as a waste of opportunity. In the end, Cooper could not perform at a higher level, and the franchise has decided to part ways with him.

The Dallas Cowboys have traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns. Both sides have agreed upon a trade that includes the WR. Cleveland will get Cooper along with a sixth-round pick in exchange for a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick to Dallas. Maybe the Browns will be the team where the receiver will shine again.

The Cowboys are happy to get anything at all in return for Cooper rather than pay his $20 million base salary. While the Browns hope that the quarterback adds some flair to their offense just like Odell Beckham Jr did. Who do you think got the better end of this trade?
