This season has been a disastrous campaign for the Broncos country. Despite acquiring the star quarterback Russell Wilson for a whopping $245 million, the team couldn’t achieve anything better. But now the management seems to have made moves trying to bring Sean Payton into the locker room, eying a major revamp in the coaching staff.

In late December 2022, the Broncos fired their first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett and vowed to look for new prospects in the market. The decision was made after the team miserably failed to pick up a fight. They could only secure four wins out of 15 games. This was one of their worst performances, but the latest updates seem to have stunned the entire NFL fraternity.

For the last couple of days, there had been rumors of Payton engaging in talks with Denver’s upper brass. Validating these claims even more, Mark Maske of ‘The Washington Post’ revealed that the Super Bowl-winning coach might collaborate with Russell Wilson next season.

“The Broncos appear to be the front-runner for Sean Payton, at least in the early stages of the process. Payton likes the franchise’s stable ownership and would be happy to work with Russell Wilson, a source says,” he wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, he also pitched another possibility where Payton might join America’s team. However, the possibility of happening so is quite less because McCarthy has just progressed toward the playoffs and is currently contending for the ultimate title.

“It will be interesting if the Cowboys end up moving on from Mike McCarthy and enter the bidding for Sean Payton. They clearly would be a contender. But even if that occurs, it’s possible that Payton would opt for the Broncos,” Maske said in a follow-up tweet.

A few days ago, per ESPN, the former head coach admitted to having a conversation with the Broncos’ general manager after they took permission from the Saints. New Orleans still has the right over Payton because he signed a five-year contract back in 2019. This will get him through the 2024 season.

Every time the 59-year-old coach appeared on Colin Cowherd’s talk show, he spoke about the possibility of returning and continuing with his coaching duties. However, Russell Wilson’s presence seems to have irked the fans.
