The Dallas Cowboys are entering their 28th trophyless season next season. And they are taking major steps to make it their last year of silverware drought. According to Adam Schefter’s official report, Dallas head Coach Mike McCarthy just promoted Brian Schottenheimer to the offensive coordinator position.
This decision comes after the Cowboys parted ways with their former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore post their disappointing elimination from the playoffs this year at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. The 49-year-old has been an OC for the Jets, and Rams, and also teamed up with Russell Wilson during his last Seahawks season.
Fans aren’t thrilled about the Schottenheimer hire

The Dallas Cowboys had a championship-caliber team this year. The defense really stood up when needed. However, the offense under Dak Prescott faltered big time. And thus enters Brian Schottenheimer, the son of former NFL head coach, Marty Schottenheimer. Also, it was Marty who gave Mike McCarthy his first job in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs. And the two go way back.
Dallas fans know Brian as McCarthy’s guy. Brian was the offensive coordinator of the Packers when Mike McCarthy was their head coach. And after serving the 2022 season as the Cowboys’ offensive assistant, McCarthy has given the OC role to Brian, although Mike will be calling the plays himself in the 2023 season. However, the new hire did not fire up the fans.
What a horrible hire.

McCarthy is the OC. Schott was here last year taking notes. Not much else to note.

He fooled the world into thinking Russell Wilson was still good this might actually be a good hire by the Cowboys for once.

Wow this is as worse as it can get

I mean he's got a bad rap from his time in NY for sure. But he's got experienced players instead of newbies. I could see success but I'm still skeptical

Also, Kellen Moore has moved on from Dallas and has found his new role as the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers.
Schottenheimer looks amped up for the Dallas Cowboys OC job
The Dallas OC has a varied coaching experience ranging from the NFL to college football. Schottenheimer spent a year as the offensive coordinator of the Georgia Bulldogs, in addition to his stints with Indianapolis and Jacksonville in the pro league.
“I am thrilled and thankful for this exciting opportunity and embrace the high standards and expectations that come with this role and the Dallas Cowboys organization,” Schottenheimer said in his official statement after landing the new job, according to The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

Head Coach McCarthy also reinstated his faith in his trusted coaching staff. “Very happy to have Brian take on this key role with our team. Also, he has been an important part of our staff already and has a great grasp of where we are and where we want to go. Brian also has an exceptionally strong foundation, history and relationships beyond his time here that translate very well into understanding what our approach to operating and executing will be for the future,” McCarthy said.
