Troy Aikman, the commentator for Monday Night Football, has landed in a controversy. Aikman was commentating on the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Last Vegas Raiders.

Just two minutes before halftime, the Chiefs’ Chris Jones tackled the Raiders’ quarterback Derrek Carr. The referee deemed the play roughing up.

The Troy Aikman controversy

The call was controversial and drew widespread reaction in the NFL world. Aikman gave a controversial statement while reacting to the call.

“My hope is that the competition committee looks at this in the next set of meetings and you know, we take the dresses off,” he reacted. Twitter users wasted no time in ripping into the former Dallas Cowboy legend.

The Raiders led comfortably at halftime but the Chiefs turned the game over their heads. Powered by a performance of class by Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, the Chiefs overturned the lead and won the game by a single point.

Mahomes threw four touchdown passes. Kelce ended up receiving a similar number of times for a touchdown.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons game saw a similar call being made. It was Tom Brady who was on the receiving end of the tackle by Grady Jarret. The Brady call had more bearing on the result as it enabled the Buccaneers to run down the clock and win the game. The one on Monday enabled the Raiders to extend their lead.

The Tua Tagovailoa injury

NFL faced heat from fans and experts alike after the Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had to be wheeled off due to a concussion. He was tackled by the Bengals’ defensive lineman Josh Tupou. The incident happened in the last quarter of the game and was the first sack of Topou’s NFL career.

After Tagovailoa’s injury, the NFL and the NFLPA agreed on revised concussion protocols for the players. Both organizations conducted a joint investigation into current league procedures. The investigation revealed severe problems.
