NFL franchise Baltimore Ravens are well aware of the expiring contract of their QB Lamar Jackson. The Ravens GM Eric DeCosta is well aware of that and believes keeping Jackson in Baltimore is a no-brainer. He was letting every Ravens fan know how they are dealing with Jackson’s expiring rookie contract. The former NFL MVP is a rare breed of a QB and is in a league of his own.

DeCosta addresses the media on Friday while keeping the anonymity about Jackson’s contract talks. He states saying, “What I can say is that Lamar and I have had probably five or six conversations at different points over the last year in regards to his contract. We picked up his option, as you know. I think at this point I would say we’re working at Lamar’s pace.

The Ravens GM states his surprise at the fact that he is directly negotiating with him. The GMs usually negotiate contracts with players’ agents, but Lamar seems to be leading his contract talks personally.

It seems there is an honest conversation between both the player and the organization, and both desire to find the best possible resolution.

DeCosta and Jackson together share their goal of bringing long-lasting success to Baltimore. The Ravens GM was open and voiced their feelings of having unfinished business after recent seasons. He hinted at the presence of urgency between both to bring glory to the franchise by winning their division and eventually the Super Bowl.

He reiterates throughout the conference how they are on the same page and have an active line of communication directly with each other. The focus for the franchise and the player is to see the latter get healthy after an unfortunate ankle injury in 2021. Jackson is due for a massive pay rise from the viewpoint of wages of QBs of his ilk in the NFL.

Lamar Jackson‘s 2022 option currently will have $27.69 Million in guaranteed money. NFL counterparts like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes will earn close to $43 Million or over next season. If nothing gets finality in the offseason, the Ravens can also franchise-tag him for the 2023 season. The Ravens fans do value him in Baltimore and believe these negotiations are worth it for his mercurial talent.
