Geno Smith kept Seattle’s playoff dreams alive on Sunday night after the Seahawks beat the NY Jets to turn 8-8 for the season. And even though it’s the championship that is on the Seahawks’ mind, looks like the Seattle quarterback is getting his rewards early. Geno is also swiftly catching up with the Russell Wilson legacy at the franchise.
Russell Wilson didn’t just win the Super Bowl in 2014 for the Seattle Seahawks. He also set a multitude of other quarterback franchise records. For example, Geno Smith got a million-dollar bonus for reaching the 4000-yard passing mark in a single season last night. In doing so, he became the second Seahawks QB ever to have a 4000-yard season. Yes, Danger Russ has done it four times before him.

Wilson has been a shadow of his former self this season, recording career-low numbers in completion percentage and touchdowns. However, fans didn’t make it all about Wilson and gave Geno Smith the due credit for stepping up.

Good for @GenoSmith3 man. How can anyone root against that man? So many people gave up on him. Ngl I thought he’d be bad this szn. Glad he proved me wrong. Hope he’s a Seahawk for years to come but if he does get a better offer and leave I wish him the best 🫡🫡

After Russell Wilson left for the Broncos in the pre-season, Geno handled the pressure and transformed from a backup QB to the face of the franchise in just a few months. That includes a first Pro Bowl selection and an additional $500,000 bonus.
Russell Wilson has obviously not justified his massive contract signing after a horrendous season

The Denver Broncos were riding high when Wilson drove into town on a $245 million contract. However, things went horribly wrong in a disastrous 4-12 season that saw head coach Nathaniel Hackett getting the axe. Wilson and Co. lost last night to the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes‘ brilliance. However, they put up 24 points on the board in the 27-24 loss. And that is more than the Broncos’ offense has managed in general with a 16-points-per-game average this season.
Denver appointed Jerry Rosburg as the interim head coach, and the offense showed up in last night’s matchup. However, so did the Chiefs’ offense, with Mahomes reaching 5000 passing yards for the season. He becomes the third QB ever to record two 5000-yard seasons.

Geno will definitely enjoy his sweet incentive bonus, and Mahomes will once again enter the history books. However, Russell Wilson has a lot to do. The 9-year veteran recently listed his preparation plan for the upcoming season. And after all the talking and nothing to show for it, fans want to see results before they wish to hear Wilson speak.
