But, former Victoria’s Secret Angel Gisele Bündchen hasn’t shied away from being outspoken about her experiences. The Brazilian model, in her memoir, explored some shocking instances that she lived through at the start of her career. Here’s a look at some of her experiences.

Bündchen’s memoir, ‘Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life,’ explored one particular incident that showcased the industry’s inclination to prioritize work over well-being. An extract from her memoir provided a look into an experience she went through at a young age.

The former Victoria’s Secret Angel opened up about an instance where she had to stand naked, clad only in her underwear. At such a young age, she assumed that this was how things were done. She wrote, “The industry could be cruel in its treatment of girls. To some designers, models were hardly even human. We were hangers. I remember getting a job at age fifteen as a fitting model, where I had to try out the potential looks for a show. I had to stand naked, except for my underwear, covering myself the best I could with my arms folded over my breasts while someone went to get me the outfits. Sometimes they would take forever, leaving me there shivering.” Bündchen also wrote about her exposure to other models’ consumption of drugs and alcohol.

Gisele Bündchen’s marriage to NFL star and now ex-husband Tom Brady and the subsequent years of building a family made her step away from her career. The years that followed gave way to her exploring a holistic way of living. The former Victoria’s Secret Angel has always been an advocate for mental health and holistic practices like yoga. Her stressful line of work kept her busy round the clock, offering no sympathy for basic human requirements.
