Richardson, their young QB stepped up to the plate as he led the Colts to a resounding victory. He’d cap it off with a mocking celebration of the Philadelphia Eagles after scoring a Rushing TD. The Colts were 7-0 down in the first leg of the game when Richardson capped off a 52-yard Rushing TD to bag 6 points for his side and celebrate with a flying gesture, mocking the Eagles fans after their heartbreak earlier this year. His celebration caught the attention of the NFL as they balked at the play and the celebration that followed, stating, “Anthony Richardson with the Fly Eagles Fly celly in Philly.”

The celebration and the plays Richardson pulled in the game would have filled the Colts with immense confidence. After signing him as their fourth overall pick in the 2023 draft, their faith seems to be in the right place. The Colts would double down on their belief in his abilities after naming him their No. 1 choice for QB in 2023.

The Colts headed into the offseason with 3 average-performing QBs in 2022. The OTAs and training sessions didn’t prop up a clear victor to lead the Colts into 2023 as their regular starter. Many were expecting Gardner Minshew to be named as the regular starter for the Colts for the upcoming season until he wasn’t. Indianapolis Colts would announce their decision to start the 21-year-old as their regular starter in 2023.

It drew plenty of suspicion and hesitation for what could only be described as a gamble by the Colts. But that supposed ‘gamble’ is already paying dividends for the Colts. The final two preseason games act as exhibits of what may eventually turn out to be a masterstroke.

Richardson has already made an impression on his team with his rookie season yet to begin. If the young QB maintains his trajectory, he could help the Colts reach the highs once seen under Peyton Manning.
