WATCH: Life Threatening Tackle On A Referee From A Football Player At A High School Game; Shaquille O’Neal Shares Footage

A football player trains all his life for the dream of playing in the NFL one day. This journey starts at a very young age. The foundation is laid from one’s high school years. But a couple of years ago, one high school football player did something so bizarre. The NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal couldn’t help but post about it in his story after all this time. 

A young football hopeful from Texas high school was ejected from the field in 2020. The name of this defensive lineman is Emmanuel Duron. He was disqualified after committing a penalty. His actions after being ejected suspended him for the entire season from all sporting competitions. 

The Edinburg defensive lineman attacks the referee

A game between Edinburg High and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High took place in December 2020. During the match-up, Edinburgh high’s defensive lineman Emmanuel Duron committed a foul. The referee decided to eject the young defender from the field that night. Duron was having none of it.

Like an angry bull, Emmanuel rushed back on the field and slammed into the ref. The poor official was defenseless. It looked like he had just got hit by a freight train. Duron’s teammates were chasing the defensive lineman, but they were a little too late and could not stop him.

The high school suspended the football player from all sporting events for the entire year. Edinburg football coach J.J. Leija was also placed on probation for the rest of the school year. And the athletic department of the school was suspended for two years. 

A day later, the young man was charged with Class A assault. “I’d like to say I’m sorry for what happened to my coaches and to my family and to the UIL,” said Emmanuel.

Yesterday, Shaquille O’Neal posted a reel of laterals about the tackle made by the Texas high school student. Due to this attack on the referee, Edinburg was no longer eligible for postseason play. And it is safe to say that Emmanuel Duron had just buried his future football career that night.
