With the NFL draft coming up, controversies are piling up high. Furthermore, some of the top draft picks have already come under some questionable situations. One of the biggest projected draft picks, Jalen Carter, has gotten into some serious trouble with the law. The star from UGA had been taken under criminal charges for a terrible car accident where he was driving. While teams were worried about his status, the defensive tackle has not yet faced any jail time for his charges. However, recently, footage of him speaking to the police went viral on Twitter.

Bodycam footage from the first responders has been plastered all over Twitter. Furthermore, with the footage going viral, the truth of the interaction between the tackle and law enforcement went viral.

The UGA star tackle was involved in a car crash that claimed the lives of his teammate, Devin Wilock, and a staff member of his team, Chandler LeCroy. The bodycam footage revealed the line of questioning between the tackle and the police. They had questioned the tackle about his intentions while driving. After he was questioned if he was racing or not, the tackle denied the allegations from the police.

Carter denied charges of racing in the immediate aftermath. As the case went to court, Carter was able to avoid any major repercussions of the incident. Interestingly, his charges were also a lot lesser than one would expect.

He was charged with reckless driving and racing on the 1st of March. The tackle had left the Combine to turn himself in for the charges. While the bodycam footage captures everything, the actual punishment for Carter was somewhat mitigated.

The final punishment of Carter

While the accident was the cause of two fatalities, Carter’s punishment was a lot lesser than one would’ve expected. The tackle pleaded no contest to the charges of misdemeanor racing and reckless driving charges. This led to him receiving a slightly lesser sentence. The tackle was charged with a 12-month probation period. He will also have to pay a $1000 fine. Furthermore, he will also have to complete 80 hours of community service and take part in a state-approved defensive driving course. However, he will not be facing any jail time.

With such a perilous outcome, one would’ve expected the tackle to get a higher sentence. However, the tackle’s NFL career will remain safe. It only remains to be seen how Carter will be perceived in the court of the people.
