Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Commanders have settled another trade for a star quarterback. Carson Wentz is now a part of the renamed Washington franchise. The Colts have parted ways with their starting quarterback just a year after trading 2 draft picks for the athlete.
Wentz had a decent performance until 2021, but his poor performance drove the Colts’ office front to lead an internal effort to make the athlete available in the trade market. However, the transaction cannot be complete until the new league begins on March 16.

After the trade, the franchise is back in the line to bring in a starting quarterback. Who can be the probable picks for the Colts before the regular season begins?
Carson Wentz traded, yet again
Wentz played one season for the Colts after being picked up in a February 2021 deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for a first and third-round pick.
According to Adam Schefter, the Colts will acquire the Commanders’ third-round picks in 2022 and 2023. If Wentz plays 70 percent of Washington’s snaps, the 2023 third-round pick can upgrade to a second-round pick. The teams also exchanged second-round picks in 2022, with the Colts moving up from 47th to 42nd overall.

Washington paid big to get the starting quarterback in the franchise, but that’s not it. According to Schefter, Washington will pay Wentz the whole $28 million owed to him for the 2022 season, including a $5 million roster bonus due next week.
Indianapolis Colts’ uncertain QB status
Since 2016, the Indianapolis Colts have had five different Week-1 starting quarterbacks, and have tied for the most in the NFL with Washington and Denver.

Now that the Colts are the latest team in need of a quarterback, Rapoport reported on Wednesday that Indy can pursue some free-agent quarterbacks. The option for 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo stands open. However, they have to be patient as he recently underwent shoulder surgery and may train once healed.
Jordan Love can also be a great pick for a starting quarterback now that Aaron Rodgers will continue in the Packers. Derek Carr can be an appropriate choice as a signal-caller as he is a powerful athlete in the position while being in the Raiders. However, it can only be possible if he is ready to try his luck with another franchise.

With Wentz’s sudden departure, the Colts’ search for a reliable quarterback might continue. Since Andrew Luck’s retirement in 2019, the franchise has experimented with several players and has yet to make a proper judgment on who to keep.
