This is a first-of-its-kind initiative undertaken by any team. Moreover, this will help the franchise re-establish itself from a rocky past. This new correspondent is a popular influencer having prior experience in covering sports-related news and on-field activities of a football game.
Who is this new social media correspondent for the Washington Commanders?
The news was initially unveiled on the team’s official website, and ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed that a 19-year-old media influencer Katie Feeney will be the team’s first-ever “Social Media Correspondent.”

The partnership is believed to be the first of its kind in the NFL. Even though she is a college student, Feeney garners over 6.8 million followers on TikTok and 2.2 million followers on YouTube.
Also, the youngster engages more than 800,000 followers on Instagram and Snapchat, making her a perfect fit for the role. Previously, Feeney worked with the Penn State football team, to provide social media content and thereby working for promoting other sports in the school.

As soon as the news broke out, Feeney released a statement claiming that she is a lifelong Washington fan making the connection more natural in reality.
“Growing up in Maryland, my family and I have always been massive Washington football fans. I am so excited to become part of the Commanders’ family. This opportunity allows me to create content that combines my passion for storytelling and broadcast sports journalism. I can’t wait to get started” Feeney said in her statement.
