The quarterback-turned-civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick faced many difficulties in his life. That experience eventually fostered him to become the person he is today and impart his journey to the world. He is an adopted child, but the question remains, who is Kaepernick’s biological mother?

Although the Niners quarterback had mentioned his adopted parents frequently, he never spoke about his biological relationships or details to the public.

A woman named Heidi Russo is his biological mother. Just after six weeks of giving birth, Russo gave up the baby for adoption, which ended up in the hands of Rick and Teresa Kaepernick (adopted parents).

Last year, Russo began a YouTube channel and explained the entire situation she faced during the adoption. As soon as Kaepernick was born, Russo revealed that she was on a hunt for a suitable couple that could fulfill her demands. They must have “the financial ability to support him…At that time, I couldn’t,” she said through her YouTube channel.

According to Wisconsin law, a biological mother cannot hand over the kid up for adoption in the first six weeks. If she is unable to take care of the child, she can resort to foster care.

“I refused to have him in foster care, there was no way. I raised him for the first six weeks,” Russo said. In those six weeks, things changed for her, and the relationship between mother and son got more intense. It complicated her decision to give up the child.
