Kirk Cousins had a great Sunday after he was nominated by the team for a career extension. A hefty deal of $35 million for one-year has been decided by the club. While big sharks like Wentz got traded, Vikings considered sticking with their current QB.
Kirk Cousins- is a consistent quarterback
Unlike other QBs in the league, Kirk Cousins has always been a durable player for the side. For the past four years, Cousins featured as the quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings.
Even though he could only make it to the playoffs just once, his abilities as an individual player are commendable. Since 2015, his contribution has made significant changes to the team.

For the past few weeks, the Vikings were in talks for a new quarterback, however, landed up extending the contract of Cousins. The news was first broken by the NFL network’s Tom Pelissero.
The #Vikings are signing Pro Bowl QB Kirk Cousins to a one-year, $35 million fully guaranteed extension that puts him under contract through 2023, per sources.
Cousins gets a raise to $40 million in 2022, $55 million payable by next March and a no-trade clause.

He confirmed the extension of the contract and also stated that Cousins will get a pay raise to $40 million in 2022 and $55 million by next March. Indeed, a pretty handsome deal bagged by the star in his entire NFL career.

Cousins’ records justify the deal
The former Washington QB will be playing his 11th season in the grand league. Over the past, Cousins has thrown 16,387 yards and made 124 touchdowns for the Vikings. The 2021 season proved pretty good for the QB. He was able to grab two Pro-Bowl titles along with the Vikings in 2019 and 2021, which also affected his contract extension.

With the changing staff and head coach, Cousins will have more liberty to make decisions. The newly hired head coach of the team Kevin O’ Connell was previously serving as the QB coach for Washington. And Cousins is supposed to have a good relationship with him, considering the fact he played for six years in Washington. With only a few days left for the league to kickstart, the Vikings will now be looking to fill in other spots and build a formidable team.
