Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver Adam Thielen, has finally explained his side of the story. What story? In 2018, while, The Patriots and Vikings were playing each other. A war of words sparked between the WR and opposition head coach Bill Belichick. Thielen was shouting at the officials and then Belichick returned with a few kind words to the player.

Adam Thielen recently made an appearance on the podcast, Open Mike with host Mike Silver. Talking to Silver, the player currently in his 9th season, recounted the events which led to a heated exchange of words between him and Belichick. They played the game in December 2018. And while the Vikings were 4th and inches in the 4th quarter of the game, trailing by two scores. The Vikes rushed the ball and found a very close conversion. But right after the play, Patriots DB Patrick Chung went down injured and following the break, Belichick challenged the call.

Thielen was also visibly angry at the officials after the chain of events that occurred. As he went up to talk to the referees. He was exchanging words with the opposition HC, who was standing just beyond them on the sideline.
What happened between Bill Belichick and Adam Thielen?
According to the WR, he saw Chung look at the sideline and then go down. As if to give them the time to review the play and then challenge the call. This riled up the player, who looked to complain to the officials. While he talked to the refs, he was told to ”shut the f*ck up!” by Belichick. “Lost my cool and I was talking to the Rep saying how that’s kind of BS that’s cheating and then he (Bill) came over and told me to shut up uh with some choice words,” Explained Thielen. “I had just went at him and said you’re a cheater!”

The referees had to rush to the sides to stop the exchange from escalating. Both of them looked very heated and taken by the moment. Thielen reflected on his behavior later.

He accepted that he had let his emotions get the better of him that day. Further admitting it was the ‘smart football play’ for the team in that situation. But it did not take away from the controversy that was created around the time. The Patriots came out victorious in that game with a score of 10-24.
