New York Jets’ veteran guard, Greg Van Roten, has been all praises for his side’s newly drafted quarterback, Zach Wilson. Roten believes he has a veteran-like approach to the sport and gets a lot to learn from him.
The New York Jets rookie quarterback was the 2021 NFL Draft’s second overall pick. Appearing in two preseason appearances, Wilson proved his potential by completing 15 out of 20 attempted passes while registering two touchdowns without an interception.

Zach Wilson showcasing veteran like qualities in rookie year
Greg Van Roten said, “I think he’ll [Zach Wilson] be fine. He’s a rookie in name only. He prepares so well. He watches so many films. I’ve watched films with him and how he filters things. He’s teaching me stuff about how to prepare for an opponent. Now it’s up to us as a line, as a unit to block guys.

“Give him time to let guys get open, let him make plays, and not put the game solely in Zach’s hands. Our job is to keep him clean and be able to run the ball to make his job easier.”
The veteran habits showcased by the rookie will have a greater role to play in the coming few weeks during the regular season. It is a good sign for a quarterback to have such traits, as this is what leads the team forward.

Zach’s first appearance in the regular season will be against the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 itself. He will clash against the former Jets’ QB Sam Darnold in the season opener. The Jets traded Darnold with the Panthers after a series of unsuccessful games.
The game will be the one to watch as it is to be seen if the Jets had a successful deal in signing the rookie or an equally unfortunate one in letting go of their previous trump card.
