Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry is going to be adding becoming a minority owner of a Major League Soccer club to his business portfolio. He now becomes the 4th NFL player to purchase a stake in an MLS football club in recent times. The Titans RB will be part of the Nashville SC ownership group and seems excited to start his journey with them.

In an official statement on the team’s website, Henry states, “As a kid growing up in Florida, I imagined being a professional sports owner and the opportunity to do that with a Major League Soccer club is truly a dream come true. My investment in Nashville SC is way more than financial, it’s truly an investment in the city of Nashville.

He believes that it is a can’t miss opportunity to be part of a football club in Nashville.

The Titans RB also recognizes their successful contributions to the community and considers them a huge asset in the future. The 2-time Pro Bowler joins actor and producer Reese Witherspoon and media and technology investor Jim Toth as the newest minority owners.

Is Derrick Henry following in Patrick Mahomes’ footsteps?

The MLS has seen the influx of many famous NFL names into their football club ownership. Among some of the NFL’s elite players, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is also a minority owner of an MLS football club. He is part of the Sporting Kansas City ownership group and might have inspired Henry.

Mahomes has been a soccer fan for a long time. The league MVP has been spotted at USMNT’s matches in recent years. The love for soccer for the Chiefs QB seemingly comes from his wife, Brittany Matthews. A former soccer player Matthews has been investing in soccer in Kansas City, and Mahomes has also been with her, supporting her in community building endeavors.

Mahomes and Henry have bought ownership shares in the MLS, it could be more than a passion driven decision. For the foreseeable future, they will handle both American football and European football. With the 2022 NFL campaign appearing ever closer, they will be looking to prepare for the season. Both their teams are heavily dependent on them to perform at high level.
