A father-daughter dance is a very special occasion for any girl. But an 11-year-old girl lost her dad so had no one to take her to the dance. That was until her mother took matters into her own hands. She got her daughter a date for the father-daughter dance, and it is a Philadelphia Eagles player.

Audrey Soape had made it a tradition to attend the dance at a Pflugerville church in Texas with her father every year. However, when he was unable to attend in 2022, Audrey’s mother, Holly Soape, took it upon herself to arrange a date for her daughter.

In March 2021, Audrey’s father, who was her dance partner at her favorite event of the year, passed away. Tragically, a few weeks later, her grandfather, who had planned to accompany her to the dance, also passed away.

“It was just a very tumultuous time for all of us. Very emotional. A lot of grief, a lot of sadness, a lot of anger. So anytime that I have the opportunity to bring joy or excitement into both my children’s lives, I absolutely jump at that moment,” Audrey’s mother Holly Soape told CBS News.

Holly got an idea. She was corresponding with the family’s favorite player in the NFL, Anthony Harris. She asked the Philadelphia Eagles safety if he could take her daughter to the dance. And to everyone’s surprise, he agreed.

“I knew that if she was going to go, that I wanted it to be something really incredible. Something that would just make her feel special and would make her feel loved and important. So, I tried to think of the coolest thing that I could come up with,” Holly said about the idea.

And it definitely was a cool idea. Harris not only took her to the dance but was there for her on every step leading to it. Whether it may be choosing the dress or makeup on the big day. And it surely must have brought a smile on young Audrey’s face.

An Anthony Harris special

Despite being busy on the Eagles’ defense, Anthony Harris made time to fly to Texas and take a young fan to a dance, creating a special and memorable experience for the entire family.

Harris bought Audrey a new dress for the day. He also got the young girl shoes to go with the dress and got her the best makeup she could get. And according to Audrey, the safety felt like a friend at the end of the night. Her mother enjoyed the night as the chaperone.
