Several of the best American colleges with strong football programs were eager to recruit the speedy teen. Unfortunately, the pandemic put a halt to most team sports, and fortunately, Knighton switched his focus to the Olympics track. And, it turned out to be a wise decision, as he soon made history by shattering Usain Bolt?s track record at a prestigious meet on 15th June.

Knighton?s performance straightly caught the eye of many, including a veteran NFL player who is impressed by his speed. A bronze medal winner at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in the 200m, becomes the 18 YO youngest-ever individual sprint medalist in Championship?s history. Knighton is undoubtedly one of the fastest, as none of the NFL’s quickest runners come close to Knighton?s time.

NFL veteran Robert Griffin III in Awe of Erriyon Knighton’s record-breaking run

Robert Griffin III, an experienced NFL player, was ecstatic to witness Erriyon Knighton?s stunning performance. Since he is faster than some of the NFL legends who were known for their speed on the field. Erriyon Knighton, a 19-year-old sprint sensation, has achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing Usain Bolt?s track record at a prestigious event. Thursday, at the Oslo Diamond League, Knighton ran the 200m in 19.77 seconds, edging out Bolt?s meet record of 19.79 seconds that had stood since 2012. This was not his first time breaking a record held by the legendary Jamaican sprinter. Last year, when he was only 18 years old, he ran his personal best of 19.49 seconds at the US Olympic Trials, becoming the fifth-fastest 200m runner in history.

Per reports, Tyreek Hill, a wide receiver for the Dolphins, ran 20.14 seconds when he was 18 years old; Jalen Hyatt, another wide receiver for the Giants, ran 21.14 seconds at the same age; Raheem Mostert, a running back for the Dolphins, ran 20.65 seconds when he was 22 years old; Jalen Ramsey, a cornerback for the Dolphins, ran 21.74 seconds when he was 18 years old.

Even Darrell Green, a former cornerback who played for 20 seasons, ran 20.48 seconds when he was 22 years old. Knighton?s time of 19.77 seconds was faster than all of them by a significant margin. Erriyon Knighton has set his sights on winning a global medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, which will take place from 19 August to 27 August 2023 at the National Athletics Centre, a state-of-the-art venue in Hungary?s capital city.
