TY Hilton has been an Indianapolis Colts player ever since he’s been in the NFL. Drafted by the franchise in the 3rd round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the wide receiver has been the cornerstone of the Saints offense for years now.
A 4-time straight Pro Bowler, Hilton, now 31, has had few seasons where his injuries got the better of him. But he’s still hungry to prove he’s got more left in the tank.
Hilton hit the free agency market briefly this offseason but was quickly snapped up by the Indianapolis Colts again. The deal, a 1-year $10 million contract with $8 million in guarantees.

But the Colts weren’t the most lucrative deal placed on the table. Many teams were reportedly in the hunt for the wideout. And Hilton said one was even willing to better the Indianapolis Colts offer.
Indianapolis Colts is where Hilton wishes to be
While featuring on the Pat McAfee Show, TY Hilton talked about his experience with free agency and why he ultimately decided to stick with the Colts.
“There were some teams. There were a couple of teams actually… I just was very patient through the whole thing,” said Hilton.
As for staying back, Hilton said former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne had a big role to play.

“The one person that I got to give a lot of credit to is Reggie Wayne,” Hilton said.
“I call him ’87.’ He helped me out a lot. He answered the phone when I needed. He was a big help all the way through this whole thing. I’d give anything for him. He’s a real big brother to me…
“For him to be there every step of the way with me, all the way until I signed, it was incredible.”

Hilton though did admit that a bigger payday was definitely on the cards. Some team was ready to pay substantially more than what his contract with Indy offers. But in the end, the wide receiver chose to stick with the team that drafted him into the league.
“I actually would’ve made more money the day I signed (with the specific team) than my whole contract with Indy,” said Hilton.
