Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes, has taken a stand for the veteran quarterback’s ordeal. The 27-year-old is easily one of the best QBs in the NFL right now. His exceptional performance for the Chiefs is a major feat and he still has a long way to go. This upcoming Sunday, he will be leading the Chiefs against the Jacksonville Jaguars and will hope to get a win. In their previous opening game of the season, the Chiefs lost to the Detroit Lions by 20-21.
While the team will be aiming to redeem themselves against the Jaguars, the 2-time Super Bowl winner took a side in a heated debate about Aaron Rodgers’ controversial injury. The NFL community has been divided ever since Rodgers suffered an ACL injury last week. The turf vs. grass debate is not new to fans, however, Rodgers’ injury has reignited it in full force.

Aaron Rodgers was injured in his first game with the New York Jets against the Buffalo Bills this past week. He suffered an ACL injury and had to be immediately taken off the field. A-Rod’s tragic injury brought a long-standing debate in the NFL back to light again. The fans have been criticizing the NFL’s usage of artificial grass or turf for their matches for quite some time now. While players like Patrick Mahomes prefer natural grass, 50 percent of the stadiums in the NFL use turf grass.
Mahomes said, “I think it’s pretty simple, the numbers say that grass is healthier for the players. I want to play on the best surface that will keep me healthy.” The NFL has a harsh call to make if more injuries still keep persisting in the future games of the season. The statistics actually prove that injuries occur more on artificial grass compared to natural grass fields. Will the NFL be able to make such a drastic change to their stadiums anytime soon?

While most of the community takes the side of grass fields rather than turf, there are quite a few strong figures in the NFL that prefer otherwise. Eli Manning recently took a stand in the heated discussion and had a unique point of view. He stated that if it weren’t for artificial turf, the chances of playing matches in the rain would be drastically reduced. Furthermore, he also mentioned how players can take turns easily on turf grass rather than natural grass.

He said, “If like you played that game, you get to play another game on Monday night and on the same field, it’d be ripped up and muddy and wet and all messed up anyway.” While the NFL is a wealthy sport with the organization fully possessing capabilities to cater to players’ needs, it will be a sight to see whether these major changes will be made to the league anytime soon.
