The Philadelphia Eagles QB was recently featured on the 2023 TIME 100 Next list. This is even more significant because he only started playing in the NFL 3 years ago. It’s clear that he has something going for him. However, NFL fans have not been very patient with him and some have already dismissed him as anything extraordinary.

Jalen Hurts was the talk of the two when the Eagles paid an astronomical price of $255 million for him. For a brief period, it made him the highest-paid NFL player of all time. But did the Philly Eagles make a mistake?

The negativity is only making Hurts stronger

Addressing the doubts regarding Jalen Hurts, host Kimberley Martin speaking on the ESPN podcast First Take said, “Jalen Hurts, to me, is the most disrespected QB in the NFL.” Now that’s saying something. Despite leading his team to the Super Bowl last year, and coming in second to Patrick Mahomes for MVP, people are still not sure about him. The persistent question is – he may have done it once, but can he do it again?

Hurts is one to be bogged down so easily by the negativity. In a TIME magazine interview, he said, “I find a thrill in the doubt, the hate, the disbelief. At this point in my life, it’s something I want you to do. Because it’s always been that way. Why would I want them to change their ways now?”

However, in the recent 34-28 victory against the Minnesota Vikings, it seems that some of the negativity has managed to get the better of him. In the match, he got into an argument with his WR with whom he otherwise shares a deep, positive chemistry.

Is the heat finally getting to Hurts?

In the fourth quarter of the Eagles vs. Vikings match, WR A.J. Brown got into a heated argument with his QB. And head coach Nick Sirianni had to step in and separate the two. Fans were left wondering as to what had led to the altercation since the Eagles seemed to be doing well in the match.

In the post-game interaction with reporters, the QB clarified, “Everybody wants to make plays and everybody wants to contribute.” This would indicate that Brown was upset with the limited opportunities he got on the field. Indeed, Brown was targeted just six times throughout the match, accumulating 29 yards on four receptions.

The QB is clearly under pressure to prove his naysayers wrong. But instead of carrying his team along to win the Super Bowl, he is attempting to do it lone ranger style. This season marks Brown’s second year with the Eagles. And the fact that he has yet to score a touchdown is no doubt causing tension between him and his QB.

The Eagles will head to the Raymond James Stadium to face the Buccaneers on 26 September. After the unfortunate incident, Hurts is sure to engage Brown more in the offensive. Will his bet pay off or will he let his own demons get the better of him?
