Colin Kaepernick has been the torchbearer of his truth in the NFL, no matter how hard it has been on him. The 49ers quarterback had been ostracised by the league for standing up for what he believed in. And while he did end up winning a settlement for his case, Kaepernick still has football left in him. The quarterback has mentioned that he still has the passion to play in the NFL. He spoke about how he still trains and makes sure he stays in the best shape possible to play. Interestingly, he was once offered to play professional football. However, he didn’t take up the offer.

It is obvious that Kaepernick is a lot more used to an NFL contract, complete with guarantees. However. after no team chooses to bring him into the NFL, one would assume that he’d take up any offer presented. Alas, that is not the case. Whether it was greed or high self-esteem, the QB refused an offer that came to him back in 2019, and the QB might regret it.

Whatever his quarrels with the NFL, Kaepernick cannot deny that the contracts given to the players a hefty sum for their contributions to the sport. Therefore any offer the players from the NFL are offered might seem small to them if it doesn’t match the NFL. This might have been why Kaepernick turned on the opportunity to play in another pro league. As per Bleacher Report, back in 2019, Kaepernick was offered a contract in the then Alliance of American Football.

However, Kaepernick demanded a hefty sum of $20 million to play in this league. Being a minor league, the AAF couldn’t afford to pay Kaepernick such a huge sum. In fact, the league’s average salaries were priced at a meager $250,000, guaranteed. Interestingly, this league included education stipends and health insurance for players as well. However, Kaepernick refused to play in a start-up league such as this and ultimately hasn’t played pro football. One might wonder if the scenario would be different now.

As another offseason goes by, will Kaepernick go to a minor league?

Kaepernick is already 35 years of age. Therefore, it is safe to assume that his prime playing days are behind him. However, with his will to play, it would make sense that he takes up a minor league assignment, even if it pays less. It would be a little absurd for him to expect minor leagues to pay him as much as he made in his 49ers’ days. Interestingly, he came into the league with a 4-year $5.1 million contract.

The QB is not going to be able to earn a sum as hefty as this again. Therefore it would make sense for him to take up a minor league contract and enjoy the sport he loves. It only remains to be seen if Kaepernick ends up taking a smaller contract to showcase whatever talent he has left in him.
