It’s unfair to assume that Aaron Rodgers will decide his future in the league and not dwell in the realm of retirement. At 39, Rodgers has bigger choices to make than between the AFC and the NFC, for the upcoming 2023 season. And it’s at a stage where even the rest of the NFL is fine with Rodgers hanging it up. Recently, Pat McAfee responded to rumors about Rodgers’ retirement.

On his most recent appearance on the Pat McAfee show, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport made it crystal clear that he will not be surprised if Rodgers called it a career this off-season. And Pat thinks it would be a treat. Especially to watch the 4x NFL MVP walk away from a mouth-watering Packers offer.

Aaron Rodgers retiring is a real scenario

After 18 years in Wisconsin, and 15 years of starting in the pocket for the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers may finally be at a point in his life, where choosing his next league franchise may not take the top spot in the priority list. Especially after Rodgers told Pat McAfee a few days before going into his ‘darkness retreat’ that this self-reflection wasn’t necessarily about football.

After back-to-back league MVP seasons, A-Rod had the worst season of his career, with the Packers failing to qualify for the playoffs with an 8-9 losing record. Ian Rapoport is convinced that retirement is definitely on Rodgers’ mind.

I do think retirement is possible. There’s only one player in the world who would say $60 million? I’m good. And that’s Aaron Rodgers,” Rapoport said. However, Ian also believes that the Packers, under the right terms, will welcome Aaron Rodgers with open arms if he decided to return. “I believe very strongly based on what I heard from the people I know well, that if Rodgers came back, they will say cool let’s go. I mean he’s Aaron Rodgers,” he added.

McAfee loves the idea of A-Rod turning down that much money

Despite Ian’s faith in the Packers organization to have Aaron on board for another season, reports from a few weeks back suggested that Green Bay and their GM Brian Gutekunst were done with Super Bowl XLV MVP Aaron Rodgers. And according to Gutekunst, it’s time for the Packers to usher into the Jordan Love era.

That still leaves the New York Jets on the table. The Jets have officially reached out to the Packers to know more about the A-Rod situation. And while some Jets legends like Joe Namath want a Broadway-bound Aaron Rodgers, other Gang Green Hall of Famers like Joe Klecko don’t quite agree. Either way, former Colts punter McAfee thinks it will be incredible if Rodgers retires after saying no to his guaranteed $60 million.

Will be awesome to hear him be in the room when he was talking to whoever said something about in a way he did not like. Will somebody tell this guy that I turned down $60 million to do this whole thing? It would be amazing,” McAfee said. Pat himself retired after turning down about $7 million. However, even he knows how microscopic that is to A-Rod’s figure.
