The Tampa bay Buccaneers lost their 6th regular season game this year. The last one came on Sunday night against the Cleveland Browns. However, when Bucs QB Tom Brady spoke in the post match press conference, he was more upset about his offensive lineman Tristan Wirf’s injury.

Tristan Wirfs has been an essential part of the Tampa Bay offense since joining as a rookie in 2020. Wirfs endured an ankle injury during overtime in the Browns game and things did not look good for the 23-year-old at first sight. Tom Brady admitted in the presser how difficult it will be to replace Tristan after the horrible injury.
“Awful. It’s awful for us. It’s awful for him,” seven-time Super Bowl champion Brady said about his trusted lineman. Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles doesn’t expect Tristan to be back for their matchup with the New Orleans Saints next week. Bowles doesn’t want to rush the high ankle sprain and wants to see a weekly progression to return. The HC also informed that there is no surgery planned for Tristan Wirfs until further evaluation.

Tom Brady and the Bucs will have to look to their backup OLs, but not for long
Tom Brady and Tampa Bay’s running backs are heavily dependent on Tristan Wirfs. Wirfs is only the 9th offensive tackle since 1990 to be named All-Pro twice. The second-year OT has been critical in Tom Brady’s pass protection and the Buccaneers’ RB’s rush protection. Wirfs hurt himself after colliding with Cleveland Browns defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and outside linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah on a second-and-9 play in the 23-17 OT loss. However, the good news for the Bucs is Tristan Wirfs will miss action for only 3-4 weeks, according to Ian Rapoport’s report.

Brady and Co. had assumed the worst after Tristan left in a cart from the game on Sunday. Wirfs has a ligament injury but will not require surgical operation. Even though only for a few weeks, Tom Brady will miss his teammate during one of the most crucial points in the season. The Buccaneers have just dropped below .500 again after recovering once this season.
