Carolina Panthers aiming to land Deshaun Watson in the summer?

Watson was one of the top individual performers in the 2020 NFL season. He led the league in passing yards (regular season) but could not prevent the Texans from finishing 3rd in the AFC South above the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He is reportedly ‘unhappy’ with his current organization and is pushing for a move elsewhere this summer. Multiple NFL outfits including the San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and even New England Patriots have been linked with his signature. But another team who can enter the race in the coming weeks is the NFC South franchise, Carolina Panthers.

As per reputed ESPN journalist David Newton, the Panthers are moving swiftly in the offseason to clear cap space in order to accommodate a star quarterback such as Deshaun Watson.

They also intend on improving the offensive line ahead of the 2021 season.

That has increased the team’s cap space to $28.473 million, heading into the start of free agency next month. The recent roster moves more than doubled Carolina’s cap space ($8.5 million at the end of the 2020 season).

Previously, the Panthers reportedly tried to negotiate a deal for Matthew Stafford with the Lions. They offered their 2021 8th overall pick, a 5th-round pick, and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in exchange for Stafford.
