Top 10 NFL quarterbacks heading into the 2020 season
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes signed a mammoth 10-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs a couple of weeks ago. The Texas-born quarterback led the Chiefs to the Super Bowl championship last year after a gap of 50 years. Mahomes won the NFL MVP award in 2018 and will hope to add to that tally in 2020.
Lamar Jackson
Florida-born athlete Lamar Jackson bagged the NFL MVP award by a unanimous vote in 2019. This was only the second time a player won that award in such a manner. Previously, Tom Brady was adjudged as NFL MVP in 2012 by a unanimous vote. Jackson threw for 3,000+ yards with 36 TDs in 2019.
Russell Wilson
Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson has been one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the NFL over the last few years. Wilson has thrown for 3,000 plus yards since making his debut back in 2012. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has already said that Russ is in the mood to make a lasting impact this season and we expect nothing less than that.
Drew Brees
At 41, Drew Brees is one of the oldest active quarterbacks in the League along with Tom Brady. However, don’t let his age fool you. The Purdue college alumnus has proven time and again that he is still at his dominant best when it comes to football. In 11 games last year, Brees threw for almost 3,000 yards and ended the season with an 8-3 record.
Tom Brady
Tom Brady generated a lot of buzz when he announced his decision to leave the New England Patriots and join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 42-year old seems determined to make a mark in the NFL this season with his new franchise. Rob Gronkowski’s arrival in Florida will certainly give Brady some support as well.
Aaron Rodgers
36-year old Aaron Rodgers’ spot as starting quarterback is under threat due to the arrival of rookie Jordan Love. Of course, Love is not expected to start from day one but there are rumors that the Green Bay Packers are now preparing for life after Rodgers. Rodgers is regarded as one of the finest quarterbacks the NFL has ever seen. Can he prove his doubters wrong this season?
Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott’s contract saga grabbed headlines this offseason. The Dallas Cowboys man will play on a $34.1 million franchise tag in 2019. Prescott threw for 4,900+ yards and made 30 TDs for the Cowboys last season. He will be keen to put in a stronger performance in 2020 in order to land a mega-money contract.
Carson Wentz
Carson Wentz almost single-handedly led the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl last year. Despite a host of injuries, Wentz put in a decent showing for the Eagles. Wentz threw for 4,000+ yards as the Eagles bowed out of the playoffs to the Seattle Seahawks last year.
Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson has thrown for 3,000+ yards for the last two seasons in the NFL. The Houston Texans activated Watson’s fifth-year contract extension this year. The two-time Pro Bowler has been tipped to be a challenger for the NFL MVP title in the coming years.
Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2014. It was obvious that Tom Brady’s presence meant that Garoppolo did not get many chances to prove himself while with the Patriots. However, under Kyle Shanahan, Jimmy Garoppolo led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in Miami last year. Despite the unfortunate loss against Patrick Mahomes’ team, Garoppolo is tipped for another strong season in 2020.
