A tribute by Tom Brady
Before he equated playing in the NFL to military deployment, Tom Brady paid his tribute to military veterans on the occasion of Veterans’ Day in 2019. He posted a photo of him and his son posing with members of the Air Force and Army during his visit to Qatar in 2018. Accompanying the photo was a lengthy caption in which Brady poured his heart out for the members of the armed forces.
“At the end of the day we play a game, and it wouldn’t be possible without the real heroes. Men and women who risk their lives in defense of others they’ve never met,” Brady wrote in a part of the caption.

Brady said he was grateful to the veterans for their selflessness and sacrifice. He also thanked them for their bravery and discipline.
“To our nation’s Veterans, we are grateful for your discipline, your bravery, your sacrifice and your selflessness. Today and everyday… thank you,” Brady said in the caption.
The United States honors its military veterans with a public holiday every year. The day is observed on November 11, the day of the armistice that ended the First World War in 1918.

What was the controversy?
Last month, Tom Brady landed in a soup due to his comments about the military tour of duty. He had equated playing in the NFL with being on a military tour of duty. Although he had said it in the context of being away from the family, many fans criticized him. They were of the opinion that Brady insulted the armed forces with the comparison. He later apologized for the comments.
When he made those comments, Brady was going through a divorce with his wife, Gisele Bündchen. The couple split up after 13 years of marriage. Bündchen wanted him to spend more time with his family. But the Tampa Bay Buccaneers star couldn’t because of his NFL schedule. Hence the split, but that is all in the past now.
