Tom Brady ranks high on the list of the most clutch players of all time in the NFL. The king of comebacks and a seven-time Super Bowl champion, Brady, is also the most winning quarterback in the NFL’s history. And it doesn’t come from being amiable to others on the field. It comes from a deep and charged place in his heart.
Tom Brady shared his secret game day preparation process on the most recent episode of the Let’s Go Podcast with Jim Gray and Larry Fitzgerald.
Also present in the episode were comedians Adam Sandler, Tracy Morgan, and Bill Burr. Brady explained why stirring up certain violent emotions is absolutely necessary to win sometimes. “Yeah. I think there’s one emotion that I have to try to find. And that’s anger. And naturally I would say I’m pretty mellow off the field. But anger, you know, is one emotion that works for me,” said the five-time Super Bowl MVP.
This sets the right mindset for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB. And Brady said that sometimes when he doesn’t have a reason to get riled up, he intentionally gets into it with a teammate to bring up the right emotion. And many in the sporting world would agree with this monster-winning attitude.
Tom Brady isn’t the only one who doesn’t like being a nice guy on-field
Tom Brady has been in quite a few heated sideline altercations over the years with his teammates and sometimes even his coaching staff. His highlights from his New England Patriots days and current Tampa days are testimony to that. And that’s not something unusual with most elite-level athletes. NBA legend Michael Jordan manifested hate and anger before important games, sometimes through no fault of his opponents. And MJ usually came out on top with 6 NBA rings to his name.
Former Chelsea and Real Madrid soccer coach Jose Mourinho described it best in the Amazon Prime Video documentary ‘All Or Nothing’ when he said that nice guys don’t win titles. And Tom Brady reiterated the exact sentiment. “If you see me in a good mood in the game, that’s a bad moment. It’s like a boxing match. It’s a physical dominating sport,” TB12 said before adding. “You can’t look at that opponent like ‘hey these are my friends.’ You wanna go crazy.”
Brady’s crazy quotient was definitely a little low on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. This could have led to the 35-7 loss to the NFC West leaders. However, Brady will look to get back into rage mode before meeting the Cincinnati Bengals next week.
