Nothing much has been going the way of the New England Patriots since their split with Tom Brady. While the team is likely to sit out of the postseason for the third straight year, head coach Bill Belichick has bigger things to worry about. One of his biggest worries would be to figure out the offense of his team. The fans have been ruing to see their team fail to score points on important moments. The blame falls across the board, including the QB Mac Jones and coordinator Matt Patricia. Many expect there to be changes, especially in the QB position. Trent Brown, the Patriots’ left offensive tackle, has just added enough fuel to the fire.

The OT liked an Instagram post shared by ESPN’s NFL page. The post contained a quote from Bill Barnwell, who suggested it was time to move on from Jones. The quote read, “The Patriots have to at least call Brady’s people to inquire whether he would like to return to New England to finish out his career. They could also pursue Garoppolo.” Immediately, the screen grabs of the ill-advised like, started to make their rounds on Twitter, adding more uncertainty to the QB situation in New England.

Mac Jones was in the middle of a quarterback controversy earlier this season, after losing his place to back-up Bailey Zappe, who impressed quite a few fans with his performances. Now, it seems his own starting tackle is vying for him to get replaced.

Could Tom Brady or Jimmy Garoppolo return to New England?

While the 45-year-old is questionable to come back for another season in the NFL, it would not be a bad idea for him to conclude his career where he started it. But, if the aging QB returns, he would look to maximize his title chances. Patriots would fall down the pecking order in terms of teams that TB12 would like to play for.

Now, Jimmy Garoppolo could be a more realistic target for Bill Belichick. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback was also drafted by the Patriots but never had his turn due to Brady. The 31-year-old will be a free agent next season and he already has some unfinished business in Boston.

Are the coaches losing confidence in Mac Jones?

The Patriots drafted Jones, with the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. He even repaid their trust with a pro bowl selection in his rookie year. While fans were excited about the future, this season he has been less than impressive. In 11 games this season, Jones has made only 7 TD passes and thrown 8 interceptions.

It seems he does not have the trust of the HC anymore. On Sunday, the Raiders picked off a bizarre play from the Patriots to score a walk-off TD. When asked why the team decided to run the ball instead of going for a Hail Mary, Belichick replied, “We couldn’t throw it that far.” Indicating a degree of doubt in the ability of Jones.
