Since the NFL GOAT QB Tom Brady decided to rent an apartment in Miami, fans have not stopped speculating about his return with the Phins, ready to swim. NFL fans are drooling over the possibility that they might see their Superman quarterback get back to the gridiron once again. And, going by the desperation of the Miami Dolphins for a franchise QB, they might be praying that this rumor turns out to be true. Because if it is not, the franchise will have a tough time solving their QB woes without the first-round pick.

After Tua Tagovoila’s injury concerns last season, the Dolphins are unsure of his availability in the upcoming season. There is no doubt that Tagovoila has proved himself as a worthy QB for the team. But, given his history of concussions, it is safe to assume that they will need other options. For now, the team can do nothing but wait for the drafts, and it is the consequence of something that happened last year. And, they have no one else but Tom Brady to blame for this.

It was August 2022, and teams in the NFL were wrapping up the preseason to make their mark and move closer to the Super Bowl. The Dolphins looked strong with their left-handed talented QB Tua Tagovoila, but, unfortunately, they received a setback off-field. The league decided to strip the team of their first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. This was intended as a punishment to the franchise for indulging in tampering, which included some of the greats like Tom Brady and Sean Payton.

It all started with Miami Dolphins’ Owner Stephan Ross’ obsession with bringing Brady to the roster. Not just him, but Ross also wanted Sean Payton to join the team in an attempt to bring both of them together. The Phins probably had no clue how big of an issue this would become for them. However, his obsession came under the notice of the league and they investigated, finding Ross guilty of tampering with Brady, not once but twice (in 2019 and 2021), which he denied. On top of that, the franchise was already criticized by fans for firing coach Brian Flores, even after his successful run. So it is actually Ross who could be blamed.

The league came out with a punishment that did not make the Miami fans happy. “The Dolphins will forfeit the club’s first-round selection in the 2023 NFL draft and third-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft,” stated the verdict, along with other directives. And, now, with drafts approaching, the nightmare is back again to haunt the team.

Is Lamar Jackson an option for the Dolphins?

As the Dolphins are getting ready to enter the drafts without any first-round picks, their priority would be to find a reliable QB. One of their options, this year, could be the Heisman Trophy winner QB Lamar Jackson. However, they can not give him an offer given his non-franchise tag status and their lack of first-round picks to offer in case the Ravens decide to let go of their QB.

Eventually, they have no other option apart from waiting for the draft to finish, to contact Jackson. Given the disinterest other team owners are showing in Action Jackson, it seems to be a possible scenario. The Dolphins looked strong last season but their narrow loss to the Bills in the playoffs sealed their fate. With Tua looking good for the upcoming season, they are surely getting ready for the fight ahead. Will this punishment prove too costly for the Phins?
