Many experts, like Stephen A. Smith, slammed the 7-time Super Bowl champion for looking at the referee for that call. Recently, Brady appeared in his podcast. ‘Let’s Go’, where he talked to Jim Gray and Larry Fitzgerald about getting calls from the referees. Interestingly, Jim Gray brought some statistics, which prove Brady doesn’t necessarily get all the favors from the referees.

Tom Brady opens up about the referee myth

In that podcast interview, Jim Gray pointed out that Brady had one roughing-the-passer call in 2021 and none in 2019. Also, he ranks 16th since 2020 in receiving roughing the passer penalties. Since 2010, he received only 2.1 percent of the roughing the passer calls. Moreover, he ranks 61 out of 91 NFL players who got sacked more than 100 times.

After hearing those statistics, Brady said, From my standpoint, you know a lot of those, roughing the passer because I’m a pocket passer. A lot of those roughing the passers you know come with guys extended place too, so which I really don’t do that.
