Julian Edelman recently welcomed his newest teammate, Cam Newton, to the New England Patriots via social media. He posted a picture mentioning Newton’s location is now Massachusetts and said it’s time to work together. However, his former teammate and quarterback, Tom Brady had something of an amusing take on this.

Brady commented on Edelman’s post saying, “I’ll always be your #1“. The two have shared a long friendship and in fact,  during the NFL Draft-A-Thon in April, Tom said that Julian is like a brother to him. “We have been through so much and nobody is as big a fan of Julian than me,” the 6-times Super Bowl champion added.

Edelman has also been a very big fan of Brady’s since he was in school and considers him “family“. While the bromance is still alive, Tom Brady certainly must have felt something about being replaced by someone like Cam Newton.

Analysts interpret comment by Tom Brady

Analyst and former coach, Rex Ryan said that Brady “probably sat back and was like ‘oh, dang. They’re gonna replace me with a great quarterback, a Hall of Fame quarterback…’ If [Cam’s] healthy, [Brady] probably had to flinch a little bit.

[Brady’s] gonna watch every one of their darn games and guess what he’s hoping for – the same thing every Jets’ fan is hoping for – that they stink,” Ryan added.

Former defensive end, Marcus Spears had an entirely different take on Brady commenting on Edelman’s picture with Newton. He said that Tom Brady perhaps thought that he was always “the prettiest girl, but now they got a pretty girl too. And ‘I didn’t think that there were any more pretty girls in the world that can take over my spot.’ ” Spears believes that there’s always a strong replacement available. People just might not have realized previously that this replacement is just as good as the last one.

Marcus thinks that Brady is saying, “don’t forget about me because I am the greatestI’ll always be number one.”

Ryan Clark mentioned that “Tom left because they’d never treat him like a ten. They kept treating him like the ugly duckling when they drafted him and when he grew into a swan, they didn’t respect that.”

What do you think? Was Brady hurt (even the slightest bit) upon hearing that Cam Newton would be replacing him. Or did he not care at all?
