After months of strife and struggle, it is finally happening. NFL legend Tom Brady, and his supermodel wife, Gisele Bündchen, are filing for divorce. It comes in the wake of Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers losing their third straight game in the season at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens.

Both Brady and Bündchen made the announcement on their Instagram handles on Friday and demanded two things from their fans and the public: respect and privacy.

Brady and Bündchen, who possess a combined net worth of $650 Million, filed for divorce after 13 years of marriage. The couple met in 2006 and have 2 children. Brady also has a son from an earlier relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan. The couple posted a curated message on their Instagram handles, which was promptly picked up by analysts on Twitter.

The rift between Brady and Bündchen started when Brady ended his retirement only after 40 days to return to the NFL. Then, he said he had “unfinished business” and started his 23rd year in the league.

At the same time, his wife, who disapproved of him playing football over giving needed attention to his family, started living separately, per ‘Page Six.’ Bündchen started missing Brady’s games and ultimately ended up hiring divorce lawyers.

With his divorce finalized, it could have drastic differences in his outlook. On one hand, he could see himself freed from marriage responsibilities and unleashing a beast not known to fans. On the other hand, however, he could slip into an endless abyss of sadness and depression. According to a source for ‘People,’ Brady is “hurt” at how things have gone on in his marriage, so such a result is not entirely off the table.
