Bucs Insider Rick Stroud in The Rich Eisen Show he stated that if the GOAT, “got to August or September even or you know right at the start of the season, and Tom said he wants to play, they’re going to absolutely own his rights, sometime after June 1st they’re going to put him in the reserve/retired list. He’s going to count $8 million against the cap this year and $24 million he gets the cap in 2023.”
Will Brady return despite the rumored rift with Bruce Arians?
It could be an interesting scenario to see the GOAT return for his 23rd season in the NFL, but will he return to Bucs, considering the rumored rift between him and coach Arians?
As per Stroud, the franchise has a theory that “[Bucs] believe he would play here [Tampa Bay] because at 45 does he really want to go to another team, learn new offense new players all of that or they know, or he knows that the Bucs would do everything they can, mortgage more bring in any player he wants and try to make another run at it.”
It was a very interesting speculation put forth by Stroud and could be even more interesting if it plays out in reality. However, he also mentioned that he assumes it’s unlikely for him to return since he believes that his retirement is real.
