A former NFL player channeled Joe Montana but got trapped by a fan page after Montana declared Dan Marino the best QB. Former NFL defensive player turned ESPN NFL analyst, Ryan Clark, found himself in a heated debate with fans when discussing legendary quarterbacks.

During a chat on the Dan Patrick Show, Clark was asked to choose between Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers as the quarterback he’d rather face. Without hesitation, the Ed Block Courage Award winner picked Aaron Rodgers, citing that he believes Rodgers is a tougher opponent for defenders.

A passionate Brady fan page quickly chimed in, leading to a back-and-forth exchange. Clark clarified to Dan Patrick that, while they knew where Brady intended to throw the ball, Brady was a master at adapting his plans based on the defense’s moves. Clark shared an example from a 2011 game against the Patriots when the Steelers decided to focus on beating the other offensive threats like Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez rather than trying to outsmart the seven-time Super Bowl champion. This strategic shift resulted in a 25-17 victory for the Steelers.

However, in their last encounter in 2013, the Patriots came out victorious with a significant margin of 55-31. The Brady fan account (@TomBradyDaily) pointed out this fact, “Ah yes another bitter ESPN guy,” reminding Clark that their previous matchup (2013) didn’t end well for him. The fan also noted that “it’s funny the main reason Clark was able to get a (2008) SB ring,” Clark’s Super Bowl win in 2008 came when Brady missed the season due to an ACL injury.

In 2008, after losing in Super Bowl XLII to the Giants, Brady suffered a season-ending ACL injury in the first game of the new season. Despite an 11-5 record, the Patriots missed the playoffs that year, with Matt Cassel stepping in as quarterback in Brady’s absence. The rivalry between Clark’s team and Brady’s team’s superiority began quite some time ago.

Ryan Clark responded to some fans’ criticism in 2015 by mentioning that during his eight years with the Steelers, they won one Super Bowl ring while the Patriots didn’t secure any. “And for those saying I’m mad they always beat me as a Steeler. In my 8 years the Steelers 1 ring, Pats none. I’m all good.” Which is true!
