NFL fans may be in for a heartbreak. Earlier this year, Tom Brady finally ‘retired for good’, from the league, as he moved on to other post-retirement ventures in his life. But despite announcing his permanent goodbye, rumors swirled around that Brady might be making a comeback once again for the 2023 season. On the other hand, ex-San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has not made an appearance on the gridiron since 2017. Despite his absence from the NFL, Kaepernick has been following a disciplined training regimen while hoping to make a comeback. He also recently trained with several NFL WRs and RBs at the Nike facility, leaving everyone visibly impressed.

But now, there seems to be a fresh development in the theoretical comeback arc of these two former QBs. And this update will leave many fans disappointed regarding their hopes of seeing these QBs back on the gridiron.

Is there a chance for Tom Brady and Colin Kaepernick to be back in the NFL as QBs?

Last year, the 7X SB champion made a U-turn in 40 days after announcing his retirement from the NFL. This led to Brady playing one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fans believe that the same may transpire once more, even this year, which led to rumors of Brady suiting up once again spreading like wildfire. On the other hand, Colin Kaepernick told Sports Illustrated in June that he is still hopeful of playing in the league once more, despite a hiatus of six years. But it looks like fans are in for a disappointment in terms of seeing these two QBs back on the gridiron.

According to an article by The Daily Mail, a source stated that “there is no scenario” where Brady and Kaepernick come forward to sign a contract with any team for the upcoming season. “Tom is retired for good, he’s done and Colin, no matter how many workouts he does for teams or private workouts he does with current players, no team is signing him, and no team is signing them”, the source claims. They further went on to explain how “every team has backups” if their starting QB suffers from injuries, just like how Joe Burrow suffered from a non-contact injury in training camp on Thursday. And even if the need arises to find a QB for the team, “GMs will look elsewhere”, according to the sources.

While this new update kicks back all the possibilities of Brady and Kaepernick starting their comeback arc, they still continue to grow and make use of their time away from the gridiron.

Both QBs have successful post-NFL lives

After retiring in February, Tom Brady has been making many sports-related investments to boost his portfolio. The 45-year-old’s most recent investment has been to become a team owner for the inaugural season of E1 championships, the world’s first all-electric race boat competition. He also joined hands with Mark Davis to become a minority stakeholder of the Las Vegas Raiders. But one of the NFL’s rules has become a hindrance in his quest to become a team owner in the league. Even Colin Kaepernick has been involving himself in various things since his last NFL appearance in 2016. He released his graphic novel, ‘Change the Game’, back in March. Not only this, but the 35-year-old is also making a virtual comeback to the gridiron this October. He teamed up with Saber Interactive to create Wild Card Football, an arcade-style football video game.
