The NY Jets’ season opener didn’t quite go as planned! The 2023 season labeled them as an AFC powerhouse, due to Aaron Rodgers’ arrival, who is now sidelined for the rest of the season. In the fourth play against the Bills, the 4x MVP was sacked, quite normally, but was then assisted off the field, and the aftermath was devastating. His road to recovery and a potential comeback in 2024 remains shrouded in uncertainty, whether due to his age or the severity of the injury.

Despite these challenges, the star quarterback maintains his unwavering determination in his recovery journey, recently making an appearance on Pat McAfee‘s show. During the interview, he also touched upon the topic of his successor, Zach Wilson.

In his interview from his bedrest, Aaron Rodgers delved into various topics, including his confidence in the backup quarterback, Zach. When asked about Zach’s readiness, Rodgers replied, “Yeah, I’m very confident in Zach.” He emphasized how crucial it is that the backup QB is also self-assured, a confidence Zach had regained after his impressive preseason performance and his debut in the season opener on Monday.

However, Rodgers revealed that he had initially hoped for a couple more years for Zach to learn without the pressure of starting. He philosophically added, “That’s how this life goes sometimes, throws you some curveballs.” The 4x MVP also shared a heartfelt moment when the two embraced, and Zach expressed, “I love you, can’t wait to watch you play.” Yet, by the end of the opening quarter, it was Zach who took the gridiron.

The New York Jets, currently holding the unfortunate record for the longest playoff drought in NFL history, have shown remarkable resilience this season on both offense and defense, even in the absence of their star QB. The return of RB Breece Hall, following a year-long absence due to an ACL injury, injected new life into the team. His stunning 83-yard rush not only leveled the score but also ignited a scoring spree for the Jets. Additionally, Jordan Whitehead’s two crucial interceptions bolstered the team, leading to a 3-point lead. However, a late field goal by the opponents forced the game into overtime.

In a heart-pounding spectacle, the Jets’ special teams stole the spotlight when WR Xavier Gipson executed a spectacular 65-yard return for a touchdown, securing victory for the team.

As Week 2 approaches, Zach Wilson will once again take the helm as the team faces the Cowboys. It promises to be an exhilarating matchup, testing whether the Jets can replicate their success without Rodgers at the center.
