We all know the story that’s been told time and again. The QB is the most important player on a football team. While that may hold some truth, if you were to ask the other players on a team about their role, they’d certainly feel differently about it. As did Davante Adams after years of being overshadowed by his HOF-bound QB, Aaron Rodgers.
The Rodgers to Davante connection was a special duo for the Green Bay Packers, in their journey to the playoffs. But more often than not, the excellence of Adams was veiled by the superstardom of Rodgers. Throughout his illustrious career, Davante Adams has consistently proven his worth as a premier WR in the NFL. With 3x Pro Bowl honors, he’s always been in the upper echelon of stars in the league. But even after years of success with the Packers, the best is perhaps yet to come. After leaving the Packers and the shadow of Aaron Rodgers last season, Adams put up career numbers in his first season with the Raiders.

The WR led the NFL in receiving TDs and earned first-team All-Pro honors for the third consecutive season. Even with the greatness of Aaron Rodgers, Adams detailed the often frustrating narrative that he owed his success to the MVP caliber QB play of Rodgers.
With his redemption story in Las Vegas, Adams finally feels like he’s proved himself to the league. “That’s why [last] season meant a lot…You can erase all the numbers. You can just write in: He didn’t need Aaron Rodgers.” After leaving Rodgers, the WR has continued to climb to new heights.

Can the Packers break free?
Although Davante Adams may have broken free from the shadow of Aaron Rodgers, with the QB bound to the Jets, his former team will hope to resuscitate their journey. Many have written off the Packers as a team on life support following the departure of Aaron Rodgers. In all fairness, with a player like Aaron Rodgers departing, who wouldn’t count out the Packers?
But after putting their faith in Jordan Love and his QB capabilities, the Packers will be another former adversary of Rodgers with a chip on their shoulders entering the season. The franchise is in desperate need of proving that its organization holds value outside of the Aaron Rodgers brand name. How soon that happens, or if that happens at all, who’s to tell?
