The Philadelphia Eagles made their second franchise Super Bowl appearance in the last five years. This year they did it with third-year starter Jalen Hurts. And the organization is set on committing to its dual-threat quarterback in a major way despite not clinching the title. Insider sources report a massive incoming seven-year deal for the Philly passer. However, some NFL experts doubt the justifications behind the huge extension. Especially because of Jalen’s lack of silverware.
Former Cleveland Browns linebacker Emmanuel Acho said that despite the dominant display and the NFC Championship success in the 2022-23 season, the Eagles may have to think twice before committing to their QB for the long haul.
Experts don’t think Jalen Hurts getting a max-extension is fair

The NFL quarterback market, in recent years, has taken a seismic shift. Patrick Mahomes signed a then-record $450 million 10-year contract with the Chiefs in 2020. And then the Browns gave the biggest-ever max-guaranteed signing to Deshaun Watson. This brings up the batch of 2020 QBs who are due for extensions this season, including Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, and Justin Herbert.
The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly preparing a seven-year $345 million extension for Jalen Hurts after he led the Birds to a 14-3 regular season. However, Echo compared the one good year to the two average ones before that.
“He had a great season this year. Second team All-Pro. Hard to do. But his first two years in the league. Nothing to write home about. So now the real question I have is that everybody at home should be wondering that changes the whole chasm of the football world. Have we seen enough from Jalen Hurts to really commit too long-term if you’re an Eagles fan?” he asked the panel.

Has the Philly passer done enough?
The Super Bowl LVII clash came down to one field goal opportunity. The KC Chiefs clinched the Lombardi 38-35. However, many, like Fox Sports Cowboys Insider Dave Helman, think that as far as the quarterbacks are concerned, Hurts outplayed an injured Patrick Mahomes and has “proven enough” to demand an extension.
Hurts became the first quarterback in Super Bowl history to score three rushing touchdowns in the title game. His 18 rushing touchdowns in the 2022 season, including the postseason, are also an NFL record by a QB. Jalen passed for an additional 3701 yards and 22 touchdowns. Surely, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie gave all these pointers a thought before deciding to put all his eggs in Jalen Hurts’ basket.
