Aaron Rodgers is entering his 15th year in the NFL. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2005 as the 24th overall pick. Prior to that year’s draft event, Rodgers was confident that he would be the number one draft pick and would join the team he supported as a kid- the San Francisco 49ers. However, the 49ers opted to bring in Alex Smith from Utah which is why Rodgers slipped to number 24 in the drafting process.

Since arriving at Lambeau Field, Rodgers has established himself as one of the finest players to ever play in the quarterback position. The now 36-year-old is entering the twilight of his career but remains keen to play at the highest level. A-Rod has previously said that he is looking forward to playing in his forties.

But with the Packers bringing in rookie quarterback Jordan Love in the offseason, can Rodgers still manage to hold on to his starting berth in the long run?

Emmanuel Acho wants Matt LeFleur to ‘keep it 100’ on Aaron Rodgers issue

On a recent segment of Speak For Yourself, former NFL players Emmanuel Acho and Marcellus Wiley along with LaVar Arrington spoke about Packers head coach Matt LeFleur’s recent comments on Aaron Rodgers.

Acho said, “In the 2010s, 30 quarterbacks were drafted in the first round. All but one of them started in their rookie season. That one of them being Jake Locker. He backed up Matthew Hasselbeck but then took over the following year to start the rest of that season.”

“So if you wanna look at the facts, the facts say in recent history you don’t draft a quarterback to put him on the bench. Now everybody’s gonna say, ‘Come on, Acho, remember what the Packers did with Rodgers? They drafted him and sat him behind (Brett) Favre’. Well, Favre was talking about retiring in 2002, 2003 up until 2005.

“Whereas Rodgers has been talking about being dedicated to this Packers organization. So when I think about all the crimes that the Packers have committed against Aaron Rodgers, and there have been several, hiring coaches without asking him even though he is the face and leader of the franchise. This [Jordan Love’s acquisition] to me is the biggest travesty. Not just drafting Love but trading up to draft a quarterback,” Acho said on the show.
