Cam Newton is set to replace G.O.A.T quarterback, Tom Brady, at his former team, New England Patriots. From what we can garner, Brady is happy for Newton and even commented on Instagram about this news by pointing out that the two are endorsed by Under Armour. Brady tops the list of the most influential NFL athletes on social media who endorse the brand. Newton, on the other hand, is in fourth place.

How does Cam Newton compare to Tom Brady

Brady and Newton have played against each other only twice in their careers. Newton won at both meetings. The last time the quarterbacks squared off against each other was 2017 when the Carolina Panthers won 33-30.

Newton is a very talented quarterback and if he is even close to what he was in 2015, then he’d perhaps be better than 43-year-old Tom Brady. Analyst, Stephen A. Smith, however, doesn’t think so. “With Tom Brady being highly motivated, still being able to throw a football, definitely being able to read [the] defense, certainly being able to cut down on a multitude of turnovers, I got news for you… I [am going to roll] with Tampa Bay right now,” Smith said.

Tim Hasselbeck said, “I will take Bill Belichick and his coaching expertize with a quarterback that’s got a 182 touchdown passes and 58 rushing touchdowns [since 2011]... Give me that type of production to go with the run-game that they already had, to go with the defense that they already had in that division.”

He also pointed that while Brady never threw more than 14 interception passes in a season, Cam hasn’t thrown more than 7 such passes in a season. Newton is also known to make smart decisions. “He has been a very good decision maker throughout his career in terms of protecting the football.”

Caveat around Newton

All these conversations come with a very big warning, however – Cam Newton’s health. He was unable to perform over the last couple of seasons due to injuries. “But if he is healthy, this is such a massive win for the Patriots,” said Hasselbeck in his concluding remarks.

Analyst and former cornerback, Domonique Foxworth believes that Patriots will be winning this year. The AFC only has a handful of elite teams while the rest aren’t the best. This, however, isn’t the case in the NFC that has a lot of good teams. FOX, too, updated its predictions regarding the odds for the AFC winner this season after Newton’s new deal was reported. The sports channel believes Patriots now have 3rd best odds to win.

Smith concluded with “I look at Tampa Bay… the sensational talent that they have available to Tom Brady to the offensive side of the ball, I see no reason why I can’t give them an edge.”
