Lamar Jackson is currently on an expiring contract for the Baltimore Ravens. The situation around his contract extension has been up and down, to say the least. Earlier in the preseason, the 25-year-old rejected a deal worth close to $250 million as he wanted more guaranteed than just the $133 million. Since then, there has been a wave of questioning over the organization’s plan for the talks. Recently, some update regarding the QB’s contract has come to light.
There was little effort to get the conversation rolling in the middle of the season. Now as the player is injured during the end of the season for the 3rd consecutive year, there is serious doubt over his future.

The team will open talks of a contract extension shortly after the season ends. The former MVP is holding out for more guaranteed money in the deal. Following the structure of the Deshaun Watson deal with Cleveland Browns. Watson signed a 5-year fully guaranteed deal after being traded to Cleveland. But the Ravens have been a little hesitant to give the player exactly what he wants.

The management will have the option to use the franchise tag on Lamar and make him stay for another season if necessary. However, there have been no fees or financial estimates described in the current deal.

Ravens will be going up against their divisional champions, Cincinnati Bengals. While the Bengals do look like the better team on paper, Jackson will have to watch from the sidelines as he recovers from a knee injury about which he recently opened up. They will probably have to depend on their backup, Tyler Huntley. On the other side, Joe Burrow will roll in with great confidence and a lot of momentum.
