There has always been some kind of crossover between the NFL as well as Hollywood. Several Hollywood stars have expressed their love for different teams in the NFL. One such example was of Avengers actor, Jeremy Renner showcasing his love for the 49ers. Furthermore, there are other teams that have some deep-rooted ties with Hollywood stars. Specifically, two teams that have a connection with a prominent Hollywood star are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants.
Both these teams have been around in the NFL since the early days of the league. They have a rich history of being pioneers in the NFL and they surprisingly have an interesting connection to Hollywood now. This connection emerges from the popular Social Network actress, Rooney Mara.

The NFL family history of Rooney Mara
Rooney Mara’s lineage boasts an impressive amalgamation of two of the most prominent and affluent families in NFL ownership history. Born to Kathleen McNulty Rooney and Timothy Christopher Mara, she hails from a family that holds ownership of two powerhouse NFL teams – the Pittsburgh Steelers under the Rooney family, and the New York Giants under the Mara family. The collective wealth of this exceptional family is staggering, with sources estimating their net worth to exceed $3 billion.
Both the Rooney and Mara families have been big pioneers in the advancement of the NFL. The Mara family especially brought about a huge change in the culture of football in New York. And the accomplished actress represents the second-generation union of these two families. Furthermore, the actress herself is nurturing an interesting next generation with her talented Oscar-winning partner, Joaquin Phoenix.

The history of ‘The Joker’ and Rooney Mara
Rooney Mara has been involved with the famous Joker actor, Joaquin Phoenix. The couple got together and confirmed their relationship in 2017. As per US Magazine, the two first worked together for their Oscar-winning film, ‘Her’ in 2012. Since then, it has been a slow burn for the couple. Interestingly in 2020, it was confirmed that Mara and Phoenix were welcoming a baby boy. The couple went on to name their son after Phoenix’s late brother, River.

While her connection to the NFL remains to be one filled with the legacy of the Giants and the Steelers, Rooney Mara has left her own mark through her acting. As she raises the next generation that can bring inherit the Rooney-Mara name, it remains to be seen how the legacy of the two NFL teams will be carried on in the future.
