Home/NFL

The last time New York Jets managed to make the playoffs, nobody knew who Adele was and The Oprah Winfrey Show was still on network television. The 2010 Jets had their games going in rushing, with the NFL Hall-of-Famer LaDainian Tomlinson and Mark Sanchez as their quarterback leading them. Apparently, it’s been a long time since the fans have seen their favorite team making their way to the Super Bowl. Currently, the Jets hold the record for the longest playoff drought among the four major sports leagues.

However, in 2023, the team is looking forward to tuning up their play a bit. Jets understood that QB has been their biggest weakness, and they’ve been toiling hard to turn the tables upside down. They successfully made the trade for the Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Now it begs the question, will it be enough to change the mind of New York native Stephen A. Smith?

In a recent conversation with Shannon Sharpe on ‘Club Shay Shay’, he confirmed whether Smith leans on everything New York does when it comes to the game of football. At this, Smith instantly cuts him in between and says, “Steelers.” Then Smith went on to express his love for the Pittsburgh Steelers and how he got into football because of the famous Steelers’ ‘Immaculate Reception’ play against the Oakland Raiders back in 1972.

Both of the speakers started talking about how the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys were always put against each other in the Super Bowl, and the Steelers always managed to win. Smith got excited and said, “The Steelers and the Steel Curtain would meet, Joe Green, L.C. Greenwood, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, and Mel Blount, I like Lord this is what it’s all about.

Immediately after this, Smith confessed, “But I couldn’t root for no New York teams, they didn’t win any d**n thing. They were terrible, they were terrible.” Well, even to this day, Smith is a big fan of the Steelers. But hopefully, the new Jets trade could change his mind for the teams. Even Rodgers is quite excited to witness the rise of the Jets once again, firsthand.

Aaron Rodgers eyes adding Jets’ success to legacy

After the trade was successful, Aaron Rodgers found it to be his destiny to play in the Jets team. In his introductory news conference, Rodgers considered himself to be lucky to get the opportunity of playing in a place where many other “iconic names” have played. So, with this decision, the Jets are looking to break the curse of the last 12 NFL seasons and become the Super Bowl contender this year.

Rodgers also seemed pretty excited to fulfill this expectation on behalf of his team. So much so, that his mere presence created a critical impact of 400% for the New York Jets. He stated, “It’s similar to Green Bay in that way when you win in a city like Green Bay, where I assume for a team like the New York Jets, you go down in history.” Furthermore, he continued, “And there’s something special about adding that to your legacy.
