From the day Aaron Rodgers joined the New York Jets, he made sure to befriend his biggest asset on the team, his defense. Having taken the brunt of some big hits throughout his career, Rodgers seems to be getting along with the Jets CB Sauce Gardner early into his days in New York. But while the chemistry between the two gets tighter by the day, they may have pushed the boundary with their latest gesture of friendship.
Rodgers has abandoned the gloomy and dark days which haunted the QB during the end of his tenure with the Green Bay Packers and has instead adopted a more fun and easygoing persona with the Jets. But while his new attitude has been a breath of fresh air, his latest NFSW handshake with teammate Sauce Gardner has left fans disappointed with the duo.

While Aaron Rodgers has had a lot of friends during his time in the NFL, he tried a brand new handshake with his new pal Sauce Gardner during the OTAs. Rodgers made a gesture that was similar to that of smoking weed along with Gardner.

But the new handshake has not gone down well with fans, many of whom are incredibly disappointed in Aaron Rodgers.
“They gunna get suspended,” said a fan worried about the drug reference that Rodgers and Gardner made with their gesture.
“Way to set an example for the kids. Typical Jets players” commented another fan expressing disappointment.
“Why is it automatically weed smoking 😭, just smoking the other team celebration,” added this fan in defense of the handshake between the two.
In fact, some other fans also joined in as they justified the handshake from Rodgers.
“Just guys being dudes,”
“It’s a chapstick handshake haha,” said one of the fans in Rodgers’ and Gardners’ defense.
Whatever the real reason behind their handshake was, the reference to ‘weed’ in their handshake has definitely not gone down well with many fans. Thankfully, however, the drug has been taken off the list of substances that the NFL regularly tests for, so the QB and cornerback duo will hopefully escape without penalty from the league.

Rodgers’ history with drugs
While the celebration between Rodgers and Gardner may have been innocent at heart, this isn’t the QB’s first run-in with criticism for drugs. Just last year, Aaron Rodgers told the world his infamous story about his experiments with ‘Ayahuasca’. The QB had made a round of trips to Peru, in order to try out the experimental Hallucinogen on his path to self-discovery.
While the story has now become common lore within the football community, with many making fun of the QB for it, the NFL did give Rodgers some leeway. The league decided not to fine Rodgers or hand out any penalties to the QB for using the drug. At the end of the day, however, the responsibility falls upon Rodgers to make sure his image as a superstar athlete matches up to his actions on and off the field.
